Be A Style-Setter This Fall

Be A Style-Setter This Fall

Layer Up:
Make double the statement this fall and layer on the fabulousness!  Deliberately pair mismatched lengths and textures, layering a shorter coat over a longer one. On those warmer fall days, switch it up with a sheerer inner layer that will lessen insulation. Layering works wonders with shirts of all kinds too. It is a timeless, classic look.

Band Tees:

Band and concert tees are like the motorcycle jacket of the t-shirt trend... They are classic, everybody needs and should have at least one, and they just get better with age.
The big appeal on this style today is that this trend offers a cool contrast to the polished pieces in your wardrobe. Another tee tip is to offset your worn-in pieces with statement-making heels.

Fashion Inferno Photos 2013

Fashion and Firemen Get HOT!

Fashion Inferno was created by Capital Iron and Kai Mundigler (Me) in 2012 as a Charity Fundraiser for the Victoria Firefighters Charitable Foundation to bring local people, businesses, fashion, food and fun to one place. Mission accomplished.

This is our second year in and it was bigger and better than the first. Local musicians, dance talent, restaurants, designers, models and firemen all brought Fashion Inferno 2013 together.
Check out the link below for some great photos of this years Fashion Inferno.

Stackable Bracelets... Embrace The Trend

Stack It On

Stacked bracelets don't have to be just one type of bracelet, they can be many. The term 'stacked bracelets' can involve every sort of bracelet you can imagine. When you wear stacked bracelets, the trick is to combine multiple styles and layering several different types of bracelets on one wrist or forearm in a 'stacked' fashion.
The style of wearing multiple bracelets allows you to experiment with different dimensions, sizes, metals and colours and is defined by a sense of whimsy and dynamism.
Some of you that wear stacked bracelets may only wear a few, while others (like me on most days off) may wear enough to cover most of your forearm.

What's the most essential part of wearing stacked bracelets? It's creating a flowing array of pieces and a dynamic look when selecting your bracelets. Some of my favorite types of bracelets are beaded bracelets and bangles with a West Coast vibe that I have collected from Aldo Accessories, Bliss Boutique, American Eagle Outfitters, Amelia Lee Boutique, Forever 21, a piece I picked up in Egypt and a silver Urban piece from my Aunt.

I am dying to check out a new designer from Violette Boutique, Gorjana Reidel!
'The line offers classic and chic earrings, rings, bracelets and necklaces at an attainable price point.  Her husband’s East Coast upbringing and her West Coast lifestyle inspired her to fuse easy breezy costal influences with the sophistication and polish of East Coast trends.'

What's great about this trend that sure doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon? MEN are embracing the style!

Wear your stacked bracelets... Stack 'em high. It's an exciting trend that will bring a lot of dynamism to your daily ensembles and find a style that works for you.

Rod Beattie plays Walt Wingfield at The Belfry Theatre

Letter from Wingfield Farm / Wingfield’s Progress / Wingfield’s Folly

Now Playing: July 30 – August 25, 2013

 By Dan Needles
Directed by Douglas Beattie
Starring Rod Beattie

Rod Beattie has played the Royal Alex in Toronto, the Stratford Festival and at many more.  Join him as he returns to where much of it began, at The Belfry Theatre. This July, Rod will reprise the first three shows in Canada's most endearing and longest running comedy series. I have been lucky enough to see the first two epic comedies and am awaiting to feast my eyes on and laugh till I cry with the third!

"Pure comic gold... Five (out of five) Stars! The day you succeed in packing as much laughter, thought, insight and feeling into two hours as Beattie, Beattie and Needles do, then give me a call.” Toronto Star.

Reach For The Maxi

Living on the West Coast, the evenings have now started to get a little chilly, as our summer was a little late to arrive... I want to make the most of this summer weather! Resisting the urge to throw on a pair of jeans or pants, I have opted for anything and everything maxi! A maxi dress makes the perfect outfit for ANY occasion. Pair it with with some black (or any colour for that matter) sandals, add some bangles and give yourself a soft, beach-wavy hairstyle and you can’t really go wrong!

This is a new piece (Splendid Maxi Skirt) I picked up from Tulpie Noire Clothing. It is a great splash of colour that can be worn with a solid black, blue or white tank, tee or sweater.

This dress is one I am lusting after and you can find it at Bliss Boutique. It is a great piece on its own or you can edge up the style with a vest and / or a great pair of ankle boots!

This is a look I love as well as being two of my favorite things... Sweaters and Maxi skirts! A skirt like this you can find at Bliss Boutique, Lark and Sparrow, Costa Blanca and at Miss Bliss Boutique in Sidney!

Don't Be Afraid To Be A Smarter Shopper

I am not one to rely on other peoples opinions most of the time, even friends (love you guys...). I like to try things for myself.

I was at a counter in a shop last week and there was this younger girl who was looking around at perfumes and she just seemed a wee bit nervous. She peeked around, as if to see if anyone was watching her, then asked the lady at the perfume counter if she could have a free sample.
I am thinking to myself... YES!

Ask for free samples! Beauty product companies are the ones that want you to get hooked! They're thinking that if you TRY it you might just BUY it! That's what samples are for! Sephora, for example, is a great place for that. I always have fun and end up with a few take home testers to try. Nine out of ten times I really DO love it and go back to pick it up!

Megan from The Green Kiss has samples of local lotions at her beauty bar and MAC in The Bay Centre and Mayfair Mall will let you play around too. It really IS worth it for companies to have samples ready and it's fun for you too.

Lavish Salon has demo products available (their new Kevin Murphy Shimmer Shine) and their stylists are always there to answer any questions you may have about their products. Plus, when you are waiting for your hair to set, they give you a amazing hand massage so you can try out their new Intelligents Nutrience hand lotions.

Did you know that Origins (The Bay Centre) offers FREE mini facials to anyone? Most shoppers are afraid to ask,  or just don't think to do it. Sure, some people might think that asking about free services is crazy or even silly, but what's the worst thing that could happen? They say no...? Best case scenario... You get pampered for FREE!

I found my favorite perfume, cover-up and hair products this way!
