Add A Little Style To Your Walls

DIY Jewelry Frame

Showcase your beautiful baubles in a decorative way. This chic, clever design will keep your earrings organized in one place and display your favorite necklaces. This display idea is an easy way to add some feminine flair to your walls. Think of your accessories, chains, studs, and jewels as wearable works of art. Most of mine are locally made and beautiful so this is a great way to keep them tangle-free.

Here are the items you will need:
mesh screen (available at most hardware stores, they will cut it down to size for you)
wooden frame (thick enough to put knobs or hooks through)
decorative knobs or hooks
cordless electric drill (if you choose to use knobs not hooks)

Steps:
Begin by removing the back and glass from your frame.
With a pencil, mark where you would like to place each knob or hook screw. Use the electric drill to drill a hole for each knob, screw your knobs or hooks in the frame.
Fit your screen into the frame, trimming the edges more if necessary.
Fill with jewelry and hang on your wall or prop atop your dresser or vanity.

How To Dress For Warmer Fall Days

September is here and the fall season has arrived. Time to start pulling out your fashionable ensembles and getting it all in gear for the most cozy, comfortable and stylish month of the year. Although September (my favorite month) can be a tricky month to dress for because of the weather still being warm. In this blog post, I’m going to help you to eliminate some of the transitional style challenges you may face this month.

Green With Envy
Emerald is a huge on-trend colour this fall.
Fall and winter are your opportunities to style your emerald pieces before an entirely new color prediction is made. Go bold with a bright green blazer, or even a pop of green in a purse or shoes.

50 shades of Grey
Grey is a beyond fabulous transitional colour because it's not as bright and as crisp as your summer whites, but it’s not quite as dark as your blackest blacks. Allow yourself to have a few grey moments this month, whether that means cozying up in a grey sweater and your favorite distressed jeans, or rocking a monochromatic look. Love it.

Mad about plaid
Ah, plaid. Plaid is always and will always be a popular fall trend, there are still months ahead of us to sport this pattern, so don’t burn it out yet. Transition into plaid by pairing a button-down with your favorite jean shorts, cute booties, and a cozy sweater.

Laying on the leather
Leather is one big trend that never ever seems to go out of style. Right now, I am obsessing over leather skirts like the one on this picture. September is still one of the warmest fall months, so try for a lighter, layered and transitional look and save the leather jacket for colder days.

Black, white and cool all over.
Black and white is on this seasons fashion radar in a huge way. It's a big statement... think about it, cool white paired with an inky black makes a bold, yet timeless statement.

Summer To Fall Transition Tips, Trends & Colours

It's my favorite time of year and Fall in approaching. Now, don't get me wrong, I love a warm summer day down at the beach and sitting in the sun on a patio, enjoying cocktails with friends... But my favorite overall season is Fall.
With the September Fall Fashion magazines hitting the stands and them the biggest and most anticipated editions of the year, it's time to talk about wardrobe transition!

Although some of you might be finding it hard to put away the tanks, shorts and sandals (here on the warm West Coast, we can keep the sandals out for a little bit longer), just think... You can be shopping for cozy sweaters, plush scarves and new boots!

Fall's fresh new colours of burgundy, cobalt, grey, black and white and must-have looks (leather, prints and plaid) are sure to have you pulling great pieces from you closet. So with the mornings getting colder, why wait?

One of my favorite trends for this fall is the black and white look. To make this fall trend work up until the final days of summer, try combining black and white with biker-chic leather pieces.

For a more eye-catching look, I recommend combining various black and white prints in one outfit.
As I had mentioned, burgundy is a fall trending colour that has creped into my closet beside all my blacks and greys and it is going to be one of those statement colours that's not going anywhere anytime soon.

The Beast Is Brewing

Brewery And The Beast
Sunday September 22nd, 2013

Brewery & The Beast, also known as the 'festival of meat', will satisfy the meat-enthusiast inside us all. Come on, the beast is brewing inside of you...
Our local chefs demonstrate their skills, love and passion for meat through a wide variety of mouth-watering dishes. Starting from classic bbq'd, smoked meats, and home-made sausage, to ethnic-inspired creations, sticky ribs, steak, whole pig... yup, whole... and lamb roasts and other full-flavoured, finger-licking, and seriously exotic foods.

All meats used in Brewery & The Beast's chef’s preparations will be hormone and antibiotic free, ethically raised, and sourced from farms and butchers on Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland, the Fraser Valley, and select farms in Northern Alberta.

What is paired best with food like this?? Well it's the finest selection of craft beers, provided by The Phillips Brewing Company.

Victoria’s 2nd annual Brewery and The Beast takes place on Sunday September 22, 2013 in the “backyard” at the Phillips Brewing Company.
Partial proceeds support The BC Hospitality Foundation's Fundraising and Awareness Campaign.

Loving A Classic Style

Tulpie Noire Clothing

Have you been to Tulpie Noire Clothing? This lovely boutique is located in the heart of Oak Bay, Victoria.

Tulipe Noire first opened their doors in the Spring of 2005.
Starting out, Tulipe Noire was known as a yoga, fitness and lifestyle apparel boutique. But as we all know very well, things change… and so did the shop. Fashion trends are always changing and Tulpie Noire went with the flow. "We wanted to help our customers shift from "yoga wear" to sophisticated fabulous street wear, without compromising comfort or care."
Tulipe Noire wanted to maintain the styles that can easily make the transition from the office to an evening out or from the school yard to a corporate meeting, and clothing that still suited an active and well balanced lifestyle.

Now, Tulpie Noire is known best for bringing their customers some of the best and on-trend styles, while always keeping styles clean and fresh.
I have fallen in love with Tulipe Noire for always having classic and basic styles. There are SO MANY things you can do with basics and clean looks. I like to ad a bit of West Coast style in my wardrobe, but always pairing my style with basics.

Coloured maxi skirt is from Splendid.
Periwinkle tank is from James Perse.

Classics. This one word says a lot, especially when you are talking about clothes.
Tulpie Noire hosts a slue of amazing brands and styles.
Denim is defiantly King at this shop. With brands like Fidelity, DL1961 and 7 for all Mankind, you know you will find that comfort and classic look. If you know me you know that I love my denim!

 DL Skinny Jeans
Striped top is from French Connection

Other brands that you can find at Tulipe Noire are Michael KorsVelvet, Splendid and that's just the beginning! Bailey 44... have you tried on a Bailey 44 dress?? NO?? DO IT! These dresses are wonderful. Comfortable, classic, form-fitting and amazing! Tulpie Noire will have a Bailey 44 dress for any occasion!

Over the last month, I have started an amazing friendship with Tulpie Noire's lovely owner, Kari and her amazing, knowledgeable and stylish staff, Katarina and Nicki. They have let me in their family and we have had a blast at the shop with new styles, playing dress up and laughing out loud! These know their stuff and just hanging out with them, you can tell that they have a real passion for their job, the shop and their community. Another true reason to love and to support local shopping!
