How To Buy A Winter Coat

Living in Victoria B.C., it never really gets too cold (meaning tons of snow and you need to be bundled up to your eyebrows) but we de get chilly West Coast winds and super frosty mornings. Having a winter coat, not a parka, is still an essential item to have in your wardrobe.

While we wait for the cold months of January and February to sneak up on us, here are some tips to buying a great winter coat. Now is the perfect time as most shops still have their Boxing Week Sales going on.

Go with classics. A knee length wool coat with a tailored fit is a true classic that will never go out of style. The specific shape is up to you: double breasted, belted or robe styles are all enduring styles.

Make it a close fit. You want the closest fit possible, but one that gives you absolutely no difficulty in getting the coat on and off or buttoning it up.

Factor in layers. Also consider the clothes you'll wear underneath. If you need the coat to cover a suit jacket, bring one with you when you shop.

Look behind. Don't forget the rear view. Some shape to a coat is good, but you should never see an outline of any 'junk-in-the-trunk'. The coat should glide over any problem areas and have movement in the back.

Check the hem. Do you wear skirts or dresses? Take into account not just how they will look with the length of the coat you are trying on, but also how the proportion and shape of the coat will work with them.

Take a seat. Your coat should 'sit' well. Button it up and park yourself in the dressing room or shop. Do you have a buldge? Do the closures pull? With the perfect coat for you, they shouldn't.

The Best 4 Holiday Candles

Friends and family that have been into my house can only agree that I have what some would call a slight (not so slight) obsession with candles. Anytime I find a scent that I love, I have different ones scattered around our house. But now that the holidays are upon us, I tend to stick to a certain type and it's the same every year - they are woodsy, a bit musky and evoke a cozy nostalgia of the holiday season. Here are some of my favorite holiday candles that I have found around town to burn throughout the cold winter season.

thymes "frasier fir"

This scent is by far the most natural smelling pine candles and has a creamy undertone that keeps it from being too overpowering. You can find them at some of the local boutiques and shops around town such as Bliss Boutique and Chapters Books.

catbird campfire candle

Emporia Boutique very excited to let you know that catbird candles have finally made their way into this lovely home décor shop on Government Street! With notes of woodsmoke, saddle leather & honey. The rawness of saddle leather softened with notes of honeyed tea, tobacco and a woodsmoke base.  They're only available for a limited time!

fresh balsam candle

This is from Bath & Body Works located in Mayfair Mall. It is filling my living room with an incredible, fresh, Chrismas, outdoorsy scent right now...!

skandinavisk candles

SKANDINAVISK magically recreates the scents of Scandinavia - Skov (The Trees), Hygge (The Love) and Hav (The Water). These amazing candles are only available in the Victoria and Vancouver Still Life For Him & For Her locations. All scents are amazing and each candle has a 45 hour burn time, perfect for long winter nights.

Local Holiday Shopping Just Got Better

It's that time of year. The busiest shopping time of the year too. One thing that makes local shopping stand out from box store shopping are personal touches. I'm not talking about friendliness as there are some pretty amazing staff and some of the bigger companies that I have shopped at, I am talking about local shops taking the time and having the time to add their personal touches.

Still Life For Him & For Her on Johnson Street is making loving local shopping even better by extending Friday hours for your after work shopping convenience AND you can even get your gift wrapped!

Same Facebook Page... Different Name

Hi Fans and Friends,

As Stylefeed has grown and will keep growing, I thought it could use a few new touches. I have met and am still meeting amazing people, not just here in Victoria. That being said, Victoria is where my heart is and I will continue to bring forth my love and support of this great city that I call home.
There has been a glitch in viewing the StyleFeed facebook page in a web browser as when I went to change the StyleFeed facebook page name to Stylefeed by Kai Mundigler, it made an error with the link. I have contacted facebook, but so far have had no luck in trying to resurrect the issue.
I can still be reached at
stylefeedvictoria@gmail.com, and you can view my facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/stylefeedbykaimundigler.
Thank you for your patience while I try to sort it all out.

Get Cozy With Victoria

It's that time of year here on the West Coast, and it’s safe to assume you’re building a close-knit relationship with your favorite sweaters. It's an easy thing to do with all the local shops and boutiques stocking their racks with classic cardigans and sassy pullovers to keep you looking hot when it's cool out.

This is my favorite sweater in my closet; a lambs wool cardigan by TNA from the Vancouver born company, Aritzia. It features custom-designed intarsia artwork inspired by traditional knit patterns from the Northwest Coast. It's made perfect for easy layering.

European Meets West Coast Under One Roof

Najoie Boutique
102-561 Johnson Street, Victoria

The name says it all... Najoie... It's unique. “Najoie” was inspired by the story of a girl her and travels through  Morocco, Egypt and Africa. Najoua is of Arabic origin, but the owner of this Worldly and Canadian eclectic boutique changed the spelling from “joua” to “joie,” adding a French twist to the name as well as adding the same style of French Canadian flair in some of the boutiques designs. Najoie and staff are inspired by nature, culture, and the art of creating.

The adventure of Najoie begins with the material. Items found in the boutique are made from cotton and  bamboo to linen and wool. I love that owner Jaiya, believes in healthier practices in the construction and materials of the garments that she sells. Jaiya is such a strong supporter of featuring  Canadian companies and designers and working with traditional artisans found in Bali and India. One of the major things that has made me fall head-over-heels for this one-of-a-kind local boutique (other than Jaiya herself) is that I can relate with my very own style. I am totally drawn to the European style with a West Coast twist that oozes out of every corner of this shop.
