When Life Gives You Lemons...

I am one who loves a tall, cold glass of lemonade in the summer, but your skin and hair will appreciate these DIY at home beauty treatments with lemons even more and it'll shock you to find out how many beauty uses for lemons that there are out there! Here are some of the most crucial and useful for your every day beauty routines!

 

Lighten Your Hair:



The best beauty use for lemons is turning the juice into a natural hair lightener. No need to put chemicals in your hair! Before taking the afternoon to soak up some sun at the beach or lounging outside in your backyard, pour some lemon juice on your hair. You're sure to have sun kissed highlights in no time at all!

 

Lip Scrub:

Your lips may still be a little dry from the colder weather or maybe you can't find a good, natural non-greasy lip balm. Lemons are amazing for a home DIY lip exfoliator. So, try putting some lemon juice on your lips before you get some shut-eye. The next morning when you wash your face, the dead skin cells and dried skin will scale off, eww, but effective!

 

Skin Brightener:

These yellow super-fruits are also rich in vitamin C and citric acid. Using their juice can get rid of the shine on your face, it can also lighten and brighten up your skin with a sun-kissed glow.

 

Teeth Whitener:

Grab some baking soda and pour some lemon juice into a small bowl and mix them together. Take a Q-tip and apply the mixture onto your teeth. Let the mixture sit for 2 minutes and then use your toothbrush to scrub your teeth.

 

DIY Deodorant:

Use a lemon! Yup, that’s right. If you are on the go, spent the night at a friends place or have just plain run out of your usually deodorant, lemons are the way to go. The citric acid in a lemon will actually kill odor-causing bacteria giving it the title as the perfect emergency deodorant.

 



Emerging Stylist Caitlin Ing wins position on the Mayfair Style Team

After four weeks of fashion focused challenges, the winner of the Mayfair Stylist Search has been chosen.

Congratulations to Caitlin Ing!

 

 

Through a combination of voter participation and evaluation by a panel of local fashion personalities, Caitlin Ing has overwhelmingly been selected to join the Mayfair Style Team.  “We are excited to work with Caitlin as she grows her styling career” says Mayfair Marketing Director, Julie McCracken.   “Our judging panel was very impressed with how articulate, passionate and creative she is at such an early point in her career.  Caitlin is extremely talented and we are excited for our shoppers to get to spend time with her”.  “This whole competition has been an amazing experience for me.  I’ve learned so much from the judges and the other contestants, and I’m very excited to be a part of the Mayfair Style Team”, Caitlin exclaims, “I love fashion, and I can’t wait to share my ideas with all Mayfair Shoppers!”

 

Over the past several weeks, six stylist candidates were given the opportunity to vie for the position of Mayfair’s newest stylist by competing in Styling Challenges including a blog post challenge, a media skills challenge and a mannequin styling challenge.  The resulting fashions from the mannequin challenge were posted online for the public to vote for their favorites.  More than 15,000 votes were tallied over the two week voting period.  Four finalists were selected to participate in the final challenge – to conduct a personal shopping session as they normally would with a real client, working within the budget. The stylists then presented their made over client in the Big Reveal Fashion Event at Mayfair last Thursday, May 22.

 

With Caitlin now in place, Mayfair is ready to relaunch The Mayfair Stylist program, in support of the local charity Bridges for Women Society.  For a $20 taxable donation, shoppers are able to spend two hours with our professional stylist who will help improve their wardrobe, maximize their budget, and answer fashion related questions.

Final Stylist Challenge, Tonight At Mayfair Shopping Centre

Tonight's the night of the final Mayfair Stylist Challenge. Jodi, Caitlin, Mika and Vanessa compete for the title of Mayfair Stylist and it all goes down at 6pm at Mayfair Shopping Centre.

 

 

Join us for a night of celebration at Mayfair Shopping Centre, as the four stylist finalists compete in their FINAL challenge to become the next Mayfair Stylist. Red carpet photo opportunities, live entertainment, mix and mingle while light food and refreshments are served. You can enjoy express manicures, make-up touch ups and pampering in the Style Lounge by donation to Bridges for Women.

Mystery bags at $10, $25, and $50 will be for sale -- filled with all sorts of goodies and items from your favourite retailers at Mayfair. All funds raised at the event are 100% for Bridges for Women.

And then at 7pm: THE BIG REVEAL! Each Stylist will introduce their made-over Bridges client and speak to how and why they chose their new look.

Special guest include Victoria Pruden, Executive Director of Bridges for Women, Stylist Search judge Tracey Drake, also editor of NICHE magazine, and Adi Lando, Pro Makeup Artist from Sephora, who will be doing a short talk on transformation and latest make-up trends.

Finally, May 29, 2014 is the date that it all comes true for ONE lucky lady, winning the title of Mayfair Stylist, a $7,500 stylist contract and more!

Local Heros Keeping It Real

Since 2010, Matthew and his team have spent many days keeping the men of Victoria looking suave, trim and handsome in the Victory Barber & Brand shop, now they are taking it to the streets. Yesterday, Matthew and the barbers at VB&B spent the day building 50 grooming kits to donate to the Our Place Society (an organization that helps the homeless community of Victoria). You guys are an inspiration to many and wonderful people to know!
